We innovate with Mother Nature’s solutions in mind. The raw materials we use to accomplish our goals are renewable and readily available around the world. Through our operational processes and practices, Okeanos is committed to measurably improving the health of our environment through carbon footprint reduction of packaging materials and source reduction of plastics.
Wherever possible, Okeanos utilizes local materials and talent, with an additional goal of limiting transportation as much as possible.
By using materials with a smaller initial CO2 footprint, Okeanos dramatically reduces the overall footprint of products that use our technologies. By sourcing these materials locally, we potentially further lower the CO2 footprint.
Reduced water use is another potential benefit with Made From Stone packing material. Okeanos believes products made from our materials and with our technologies have the potential to lower the water scarcity footprint (WSF) of packaging: Evaluation to confirm this is underway.
Okeanos uses sustainably sourced materials, that are naturally abundant worldwide. We believe, by extension, products made with stone have a better sustainability profile.
By replacing a significant portion of plastic with calcium carbonate, Okeanos drastically reduces overall plastic product content and potential plastic pollution by decreasing plastic before it gets into the manufacturing stream.
Okeanos’ products are inspired by nature. Our goal is to ultimately match nature’s Calcium Carbonate content efficiency of an eggshell: 97% .
Our technologies can be enacted today, increasing the potential for global impact immediately.
Our solutions are designed to be cost effective for manufacturers all around the world. Local sourcing allows us to mitigate costs, making Made From Stone technology a viable solution for the developing world.
Our Philanthropic support involves five main pillars:
Okeanos is committed to fostering a motivated, energized, and informed generation of future leaders. We aim to help educate the next generation about the challenges we face and arm them with the knowledge and tools to take proactive steps toward change.
Through a volunteerism program built into the benefits package at Okeanos, we encourage our employees to get their hands dirty, choosing quarterly conservation projects to participate in around the world.
We are committed to building out a platform that encourages activists and educators to make informed decisions in hopes of influencing policymakers and community leaders. Together we actively work to stimulate change at a government level with a goal of shifting regulations that pertain to plastic production.
Science is the backbone of our technology, and we understand that continued research on the effects of our technology on the environment will only improve our understanding. We are committed to asking the hard questions, seeking, and evaluating the answers, and adapting our technologies accordingly. We believe through research current solutions can be improved and new solutions will be found.
Okeanos aims to create a meaningful platform to spread content that inspires likeminded individuals who believe in our mission. The threat of plastic pollution cannot be solved by any one-person, organization, or country. Collectively we believe we all have the responsibility to preserve the environment for generations to come.
We do not have anything to hide and are proud to share with our customers what they want to know. To do so, we have the following standards in place:
Okeanos was founded on the principles of sustainability. The Okeanos Board of Managers carries this out at the highest authority in the organization and sets the corporate goals of the company. Day-to-day operations are led by the CEO and administrative team.
Okeanos is compiling LCA reports in every country we work in. The LCA reports show the life cycle of a product, from cradle to grave. We are working to publish LCA reports by the end of fall, 2021.
Okeanos supports data transparency by offering our consumers a unique opportunity to follow individual products energy and emissions savings.
It’s not only important to our employees to be held to the highest level of ethical standards but the entire supply chain as well. At Okeanos we expect our suppliers to comply with all relevant laws and regulations as well as Okeanos Code of Conduct where polices on labor and human rights, environment, and ethics are communicated. Internally, we hold ourselves to those same standards upheld by our internal audit committee.
