Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Statement

As a global organization, Okeanos is committed to tackling societal challenges by introducing solutions that can be easily and readily adopted worldwide. Fueled by our mission to eradicate single-use plastic, we continue to build and evolve our foundational pillars of environmental sustainability, societal change, governance, and transparency backed by science. We are committed to ensuring our business is a leader in advancing these essential concepts. With the principles below as our guide, Okeanos takes the first step toward building a better tomorrow, today.

ENVIRONMENT conservation of the natural world

Plastic pollution is an urgent and entirely man-made global challenge.

We innovate with Mother Nature’s solutions in mind. The raw materials we use to accomplish our goals are renewable and readily available around the world. Through our operational processes and practices, Okeanos is committed to measurably improving the health of our environment through carbon footprint reduction of packaging materials and source reduction of plastics.

OUR MAIN GOAL IS THE PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT.

There are several key principles we stand by to attain our desired results:

LOCAL SUPPLY & PRODUCTION

Wherever possible, Okeanos utilizes local materials and talent, with an additional goal of limiting transportation as much as possible.

CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION

By using materials with a smaller initial CO2 footprint, Okeanos dramatically reduces the overall footprint of products that use our technologies. By sourcing these materials locally, we potentially further lower the CO2 footprint.

WATER FOOTPRINT REDUCTION

Reduced water use is another potential benefit with Made From Stone packing material. Okeanos believes products made from our materials and with our technologies have the potential to lower the water scarcity footprint (WSF) of packaging: Evaluation to confirm this is underway.

SUSTAINABLE SOURCING

Okeanos uses sustainably sourced materials, that are naturally abundant worldwide. We believe, by extension, products made with stone have a better sustainability profile.

PLASTIC POLLUTION REDUCTION

By replacing a significant portion of plastic with calcium carbonate, Okeanos drastically reduces overall plastic product content and potential plastic pollution by decreasing plastic before it gets into the manufacturing stream.

BIOMIMICRY

Okeanos’ products are inspired by nature. Our goal is to ultimately match nature’s Calcium Carbonate content efficiency of an eggshell: 97% .

IMMEDIACY

Our technologies can be enacted today, increasing the potential for global impact immediately.

COST EFFECTIVE

Our solutions are designed to be cost effective for manufacturers all around the world. Local sourcing allows us to mitigate costs, making Made From Stone technology a viable solution for the developing world.

SOCIAL CONSIDERATION OF PEOPLE
AND RELATIONSHIP

Okeanos is named after the Greek God of the river that encircles the world, also known as the ocean.

However, we as a society are connected by more than just water. The ocean has no boarders and neither does the pollution within it. As such marine pollution of one nation quickly becomes a global problem no matter the source. Therefore, we must come together to ensure that everyone can add their voice and participate in the solution.

We are committed to providing a platform so that every voice regardless of race, creed, gender, or background can equally contribute to this vital conversation. We are dedicated to providing targeted support to those who value education, scientific curiosity, and community.

Okeanos is, at its very core, an equal opportunity employer. With employees across more than 15 countries, our team brings a myriad of languages, life experiences, and cultural nuances to our work. Each gender, race, orientation, and skill level represented, adds another vital layer to our diverse operation.

Okeanos Philanthropy

was created to empower our communities to make changes in their daily lives
to better the environment.

Our Philanthropic support involves five main pillars:

EDUCATION

Okeanos is committed to fostering a motivated, energized, and informed generation of future leaders. We aim to help educate the next generation about the challenges we face and arm them with the knowledge and tools to take proactive steps toward change.

CONSERVATION

Through a volunteerism program built into the benefits package at Okeanos, we encourage our employees to get their hands dirty, choosing quarterly conservation projects to participate in around the world.

ACTIVISM

We are committed to building out a platform that encourages activists and educators to make informed decisions in hopes of influencing policymakers and community leaders. Together we actively work to stimulate change at a government level with a goal of shifting regulations that pertain to plastic production.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH

Science is the backbone of our technology, and we understand that continued research on the effects of our technology on the environment will only improve our understanding. We are committed to asking the hard questions, seeking, and evaluating the answers, and adapting our technologies accordingly. We believe through research current solutions can be improved and new solutions will be found.

COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN

Okeanos aims to create a meaningful platform to spread content that inspires likeminded individuals who believe in our mission. The threat of plastic pollution cannot be solved by any one-person, organization, or country. Collectively we believe we all have the responsibility to preserve the environment for generations to come.

GOVERNANCE STANDARDS FOR RUNNING THE COMPANY

The foundational element of Okeanos’ Made From Stone® technologies is calcium carbonate commonly referred to as stone.
Like the foundation of our technology, Okeanos is committed to ensuring every innovation is supported by solid research.
We understand that our solution is not perfect yet, but we work hard every day to continue to innovate and improve.

Okeanos is committed to transparency.

We do not have anything to hide and are proud to share with our customers what they want to know. To do so, we have the following standards in place:

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Okeanos was founded on the principles of sustainability. The Okeanos Board of Managers carries this out at the highest authority in the organization and sets the corporate goals of the company. Day-to-day operations are led by the CEO and administrative team.

LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS (LCA)

Okeanos is compiling LCA reports in every country we work in. The LCA reports show the life cycle of a product, from cradle to grave. We are working to publish LCA reports by the end of fall, 2021.

HONEST LABELING

Okeanos supports data transparency by offering our consumers a unique opportunity to follow individual products energy and emissions savings.

ETHICS AND COMPLIANCE

It’s not only important to our employees to be held to the highest level of ethical standards but the entire supply chain as well. At Okeanos we expect our suppliers to comply with all relevant laws and regulations as well as Okeanos Code of Conduct where polices on labor and human rights, environment, and ethics are communicated. Internally, we hold ourselves to those same standards upheld by our internal audit committee.

OUR COMMITMENTS ARE EVER EVOLVING!
